CLC International (formerly Christian Literature Crusade) is an evangelical, interdenominational world mission's fellowship. In the United States we are registered as 501(C) 3 not for profit organization. This organization was founded in England in 1941 and has its International Headquarters in Sheffield today. The purpose of CLC is to make evangelical Christian literature available to all nations so that people may come to faith and maturity in our Lord Jesus Christ. To this end, CLC has established literature works in over 55 countries of the world and is expanding every year into new areas.
CLC functions as other evangelical world missions organizations do, but has several unique differences. CLC plants literature works (bookstores, bookmobiles, translation work, publishing/printing) rather than churches in the countries it operates in. CLC works broadly to serve the entire evangelical community and therefore has workers and materials that are from various denominational perspectives.
Initially, CLC will send cross-cultural missionaries to start a work in a new area such as its current emphasis on the former Soviet Republics . The goal in this is to establish a viable and sustainable work that can be operated by a national staff in a reasonably short period of time. This means that our missionaries may work themselves out of different jobs around the world as these fields mature and become self-sustaining.
Our national workers do receive sacrificial salaries from these works, but are considered full partners in the International Fellowship. Today, over 90% of the CLC fields are nationalized and several are sending workers cross culturally to start works in other countries.
